Ron Marlett during small boat drill.

1970

Ron Marlett was transferred to the USCGC Winnebago after he graduated from boot camp. The Winnebago was part of a fleet of high endurance cutters that had continuous presence at designated areas in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. The main designated area the Winnebago patrolled was called Ocean Station Victor; a 210 square mile area between Midway Atoll and Japan. When the Winnebago was at sea, the crew would have small boat drill every day. In this picture, Ron is on the left side facing the camera. The crew is getting the small boat ready for the away team so they can board the boat and be lowered into the ocean.
