View from the USCGC Winnebago during heavy seas.

1970

After completing the second of three Ocean Station Victors, the USCGC Winnebago headed for Yokosuka, Japan for a scheduled maintenance appointment in drydock. On the way to Japan, the Winnebago steamed through a typhoone that was blowing toward Japan. Ron Marlett took this photograph while standing lookout on top the Winnebago's wheelhouse. The picture shows the storm having large 60-foot waves that are chaotic. After Ron took the picture, the giant waves developed into perfect unbroken ranks for several minutes, and then returned to its original chaotic nature.
