USCGC Winnebago highlining with another ship.

1970

When the USCGC Winnebago's drydock overhaul was complete, she headed back out to Ocean Station Victor halfway between Midway Atoll and Japan. The Winnebago relieved the USCGC Mellon by highling mail and a crewman who had urgent business to attend in Hawaii. This photograph was taken by a coastguardsman onboard the Mellon. The picture shows the Winnebago engaged in highling with the Mellon. Underneath the Winnebago's small boat is Ron Marlett who is bent forward as he works with the crew to transfer the Mellon's mail. Of all the ship's operations at sea, Ron Marlett liked highling because of the excitement of being so close to another ship.
