Admiral Prins and Ron Marlett celebrating Ron's cartoons.

1972

During a celebration party for Ron Marlett's Ensign Bafflestir cartoons, the 14th Coast Guard District Cammander Rear Admiral Prins came into the office to congratulate Ron. Admiral Prins supported Ron's cartoons and even defended Ron's work at a District Cammanders meeting in Washington DC when other admirals expressed displeasure over having liberal humor published in a Coast Guard magazine. Admiral Prins believed that having Ron Marlett's humor in the Pacific Shield magazine was good for moral because it gave coastguardsmen entertainment that they could relate too, especially for coastguardsmen who were operating LORAN (Long Range Navigation) in isolated areas of the Pacific Ocean.
