Ron Marlett's portrait of his cartoon Ensign Bafflestir.

2008

During the last 3 years of Ron Marlett's enlistment with the Coast Guard, he worked in the Public Relations Office. One of Ron's duties was to draw a cartoon strip called Ensign Bafflestir for the 14th Coast Guard District's news magazine. The cartoon became very popular within the Coast Guard. Years later, Ron drew a portrait of Ensign Bafflestir. The portrait is a parody of a painting of Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson with the USCGC Winnebago replacing the HMS Victory in the background, and an addition of a hobby table in the foreground. You can read more about Ensign Bafflestir at Wikipedia.
