Coast Guard Base Sand Island at Honolulu Harbor, Hawaii.

1970

Ron Marlett was transfered to Coast Guard Base Sand Island located in Honolulu Harbor on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. Sand Island was originally a small tidal island called Quarantine Island. The island grew in size from the dredging of Honolulu Harbor during the 1940s and was renamed Sand Island. The Coast Guard base was established in 1939 when it absorbed the US Lighthouse Service and its property on the island. In 1945, an additional 5 acres was added to the Coast Guard base with the primary mission of buoy repair and support for the 14th Coast Guard District's units.
