Statue of Liberty 1986 renovation.

Statue of Liberty 16" x 13" June 20,1986

During Marlett's education at CSUN, he began developing an illustration portfolio for the possibility of pursuing a career in commercial art. Marlett experimented with acrylic painting and mixed media techniques until he settled with combining colored pencils and acrylic washes as a way of achieving smooth gradations with the materials. The birth of diagonal lines in Marlett's impressionism work came from his illustration portfolio. Many of the illustrations Marlett did were of contemporary issues done with humorous twists to the subject matter. His last illustration was of the renovation work being completed on the Statue of Liberty in 1986. Marlett painted the national monument as if it were alive and in the process of freshening up her makeup.  You can buy t-shirts of this painting at Ron Marlett's Store
