In 1961, Ron Marlett dressed as a Union soldier.

1961

During America's Civil War Centennial, 10-year old Ron Marlett developed an interest in the conflict. His parents bought him Civil War books, games, and toys that quickly became his passionate hobby. Ron's favorite outside activity was dressing up as a soldier and playing war with his friends. In this photograph taken by his mother, Ron turned his Cub Scout uniform inside out and used cardboard and rope to make an ammunition pouch.
