Ron Marlett painted and photographed his toy soldiers.

1963

One of the Civil War books Ron Marlett got from his parents had photographs of toy soldiers that were painted and placed in scenes to illustrate battles during the war. When Ron and his younger brother Rich got the Blue and Gray Battle Set by Marx as a Christmas gift, Ron began painting the figures and setting them up along with figures and canons made by MPC, Lido, and Britians Herald on the family ping pong table. Ron used dirt for the environment and cotton for the gun smoke, and then photographed his scenes using his mother's Kodak Duaflex II camera.
