In this picture, Ron Marlett is applying the under painting to the flowers of his piece Still Life with Butterflies (1998). Note how Ron holds his brush. The finger grip at the end of the brush is very unusual for rendering realistic detail. Ron's style of holding the brush became a more appropriate brush hold years later when he began to use short diagonal lines to create his imagery.
