Ron Marlett's painting of three butterflies,

Painted Ladies   24 x 18   June 2, 1995
In his piece Painted Ladies, Ron incorporates two design principles into the composition: the light and dark blue flowers help to divide the vertical format into three equal parts; and the dark leaves and flowers create a pyramid that acts as a foundation for the orange painted lady butterflies. A blurred view of this piece reveals a non-representational well-balanced abstract painting that celebrates geometry.
