When the USCGC Winnebago completed her third consecutive Ocean Station Victor, she returned to her homeport in Honolulu Harbor. In January the Winnebago
began training for her annual military readiness assessment that was
scheduled in spring. Ron Marlett took this picture of his friend John
Best after the Winnebago
completed her gunnery practice and was on route to Honolulu Harbor.
Behind John is Diamond Head and Waikiki. That same month, John was sent
to journalist school for 3 months. When John completed his training, he
was transferred to the 14th Coast Guard District Office where he worked
until his discharge in 1973.
