Ron Marlett was transferred to the 14th Coast Guard District Office to work as a driver and a public relations representative. Ron provided artwork for the district's monthly news magazine called Pacific Shield. In this picture, the Public Relations Office celebrated one year of Ensign Bafflestir cartoons. From left to right are Chief Journalist Jim Gilman, Seaman Tony Hardman, Seaman Ron Marlett, Lieutenant Charles Boyer, Seaman Kevin Schmidt, and Photographer's Mate 1st Class Romy Guba. Chief Gilman was very good in coming up with names for Ron's cartoon characters. Gilman was credited with the names of Ensign Bafflestir and Chief Barnflower who frequently appeared in Ron's cartoons.
