During
a celebration party for Ron
Marlett's Ensign Bafflestir cartoons, the 14th Coast Guard District
Cammander Rear Admiral Prins came into the office to congratulate Ron.
Admiral Prins supported Ron's cartoons and even defended Ron's work at
a District Cammanders meeting in Washington DC when other admirals
expressed displeasure over having liberal humor published in a Coast
Guard magazine. Admiral Prins believed that having Ron Marlett's humor
in the Pacific Shield magazine was good for moral because it gave
coastguardsmen entertainment that they could relate too, especially for
coastguardsmen who were operating LORAN (Long Range Navigation) in
isolated areas of the Pacific Ocean. Return to Gallery
