While
on the return trip from a family reunion in Oregon, Ron Marlett's
cousin Linda Windler took Ron along the northern California coast. One
of the parks they stopped at was the Del Norte Coast Redwoods State
Park. Ron made several sketches from this visit and began this painting
soon after his trip ended. The painting was a scene looking seaward
from the hiking trial that followed the coast line. At close inspection
of the painting, the diagonal brush marks can be seen throughout the
entire piece. This technique continued to dominated Ron's
impressionistic style for many years after completing this painting.
