Ron Marlett sitting in front of his Tahitian hut.

1978

Ron Marlett sitting in front of the house he rented during his second trip to Tahiti. The house was located in the district of Mahina only 50 yards from the beach. Large fleshy spiders lived in the grass-thatched roof, and during February 1979, several wasps made nests in the bathroom. There were so many mosquitoes, that Ron had to wear long sleeve shirts, long pants, boots, gloves, and a hat while he worked on his paintings. Despite the precautions that Ron took, he contracted dang fever 3 times in the 6 months he lived there.
