Lieutenant Commander Charles Boyer commissioned Ron Marlett to paint a portrait of the USRC McCulloch as she appeared in 1906 off the coast of Alaska. Between 1906 and 1912, the McCulloch
enforced fur seal regulations and also acted as a court house for
remote areas along the Alaskan coast. In 1915, the Revenue Cutter
Service and the Life Saving Service merged to become the Coast Guard,
which is why LCDR Boyer had an interest in having Ron paint the McCulloch for Boyer's art collection.
