Ron Marlett's earlier painting of a clipper ship.

1966

This painting of the clipper ship Stag Hound leaving port was painted by Ron Marlett after he built a plastic model of it. Ron was inspired by the model's box art and wanted to paint a similar scene of the ship in a harbor setting. Ron included sailors performing different jobs on board the clipper ship and a very inaccurate rendation of the American flag for the time that the Stag Hound sailed. In his later maritime pieces, Ron would maticulusly research the ships that he painted. The painting USRC Pickering - 1798 is good example of Ron's attention to research and authentic detail.
