Ron Marlett's earlier painting of a sailing ship.

1966

During Ron Marlett's youth, he considered painting to be one of his hobbies. Painting did not take up most of his hobby time, preferring to spend his time building model ships or participating in the Sea Explorer program. When Ron dabbled with his art supplies, the subjects he rendered were mostly sailing ships. After building the Revell 1/232 scale model of the clipper ship Flying Cloud, Ron did this painting of the ship caught in the monstrous waves of a typhoon. Very few of Ron's early maritime paintings survived the moving from one residence to another. It is most likely that the artist disposed many of them due to the lack of storage space.
