Ron Marlett in his quartermaster uniform.

1967

Within two years of joining the Sea Explorers, Ron Marlett past his quartermaster exams; the highest rank for a Sea Scout. Ron was now in charge of the weekly meetings and weekend excursions with their small boats. Ron also took on the responsibilty of training the Sea Scouts in Ship 469 so their Ship could compete against other Ships in the biannual Sea Explorer Regattas. Ron believed that the Sea Explorers would give him the knowledge he would need to make a career in the United States Coast Guard after he graduated from High School. Several months after this picture was taken, Ron quit the Sea Scouts so that he could spend more of his time surfing.
