Marlett's nephew Greg Marlett peers through a telescope during the
annual Gasparilla Pirate Fest in Gasparilla, Florida. The pirate
festival began when Gasparilla city officials adopted the legendary
Spanish pirate Jose Gaspar as the patron rogue for their citywide
celebration in 1904. Every January since then, local citizens and
visitors have dressed up as pirates to participate in the parade and
other festival events. In this picture, Greg is standing in front of
the Black Pearl, one of many pirate themed floats used in the parade.
