Ron
Marlett and his friends John Mack and Anthony Mack spent a Saturday
visiting the Maritime Museum of San Diego. Anthony took this picture of
his father and Ron at the helm of the HMS Surprise; a sailing ship that was used in the film, Master and Commander (2003). The Surprise began her life as the HMS Rose
in 1970. She was used as a dockside attraction for the majority of her
life and then was sold in 2001 to 20th Century Fox. The film company
made extensive modifications to the Rose and then renamed her HMS Surprise. After the filming of Master and Commander, the Surprise was sold to the Maritime Museum of San Diego where she served the remaining years of her life as a dockside attraction. Return to Gallery
