Ron Marlett joined the Coast Guard in 1970 and was stationed aboard the USCGC Winnebago home ported in Honolulu, Hawaii. In this picture, Ron is participating in lowering the Winnebago's port small boat. Ron was also trained to be the small boat bowman. Small boat drill was practiced every day when the Winnebago was at sea. As the bowman during heavy seas, Ron remembered how the Winnebago would disappear from the boat crew's sight when the small boat was in a deep trough. |
