SMS Emden 1/350 June 25, 2011 |
The SMS Emden
plastic model kit was manufactured by Revell of Germany and released in
2006. Ron Marlett's brother Rich commissioned Ron to build the
model for Rich's collection of Imperial German memorabilia. During the
construction of the model, Ron used photo etched sets and added many
details that were not included in the kit. The most difficult parts of
the model that Ron created were the 6 gun turrets. By 2010, the
internet was a fully developed media for collecting information on
everything. Ron did all his research on the Emden
by visiting various maritime websites that featured photographs of the
Imperial German cruiser. A website that showcased Peter Gunter Huff's
model of the SMS Emden served
as the main source of inspiration for Ron's model. Another website gave
information about German navy signals of World War One. On the model's
foremast rigging, Ron attached the flags that signaled the squadrons to
form into a battle line. Return to Gallery |
