Ron
Marlett's niece and her husband commissioned Ron to paint a portrait of
their daughter using colors that would complement their Victorian
decorating. Ron's realistic style of painting required three stages of
production. In this photograph, Ron is working on the first stage where
he is applying the undercoat to all the shapes in the composition. The
preliminary sketch can still be seen on the book's cover where Ron has
