Ron Marlett's oldest brother Rob and his wife Nancy commissioned Ron to paint their son Greg after Greg graduated from Clay High School in Green Cove Springs, Florida. The painting was created with the use of a formal photograph taken of Greg when he was attending Clay High School in 2003. Rob liked the photograph and wanted Ron not to deviate from the photograph's colors and shading. Ron added more light reflection in the eyes and the background was slightly changed to enhance the light around Greg's head. Greg became a professional baseball player who was one of 37 Americans drafted into the Israel Baseball League when the organization first started in 2007, and in 2010, he played with the San Luis Athleticos in Arizona where his team finished second.
