Ron Marlett stands near his original painting Still Life with a Sword-Billed Hummingbird (1994) during the Ventura Art and History Museum's reception. The Ventura County Star wrote a critique of the museum's juried show which included a picture and favorable review of Ron's painting. The paper's article also complained about the judges awarding the prize money to undeserving artists, of which one of the prize winning artists entered an amateurish landscape painting he found in the garbage dump, and then painted a red boat in the painting's sky.
